QLD State Daily Forecast

Friday 9th December 2022

A sea breeze front is expected to be positioned between the Coastline and the Ranges during the day. The positioning of this sea breeze front, will allow for moisture to increase in the form of South East to Easterly winds across areas South of Yeppoon and North Easterly winds across areas North of Yeppoon during the day. This increased moisture is expected to combine with continued warm conditions across areas North of the Wide Bay, along with some dry air aloft intruding from the West, which will lead to some weak instability developing at best. As a result of this, some isolated showers and marginally possible storms may develop across the Northern Wide Bay through to the Southern Herbert and Lower Burdekin. Any storms across these areas are far more likely Inland from the Coast – but should push towards the Coast. Any storms that do develop are also expected to be rather short lived with a burst of rain, a burst of frequent lightning and maybe some strong winds. Outside of this potential, some showers are possible over these same areas and the South East Coast, as well as possibly spreading into the Central Highlands during the night. Across the Tropics, some showers and possible storms may occur across the Western Peninsula and Atherton Tablelands, with showers also possible over the North Tropical Coast. Across the remainder of the State, South to South West winds are expected to impact most Inland areas throughout the day, with winds eventually veering more South Easterly over Western districts. These winds are expected to combine with dry air aloft and produce drier air at the surface – leading to widespread fine and sunny conditions.
